Surprise! There are a lot of foundations on the market. Okay, that’s probably not much of a shock, is it? From cult classic drugstore finds like Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless to oft-raved-about high-end options like Armani Luminous Silk, wading through the waters of foundation land can get dicey. But a recent viral foundation may be the answer to your ‘I can never find the perfect foundation,’ woes — e.l.f.’s Camo CC Cream.

The product is one of the brand’s latest to take over TikTok. Head over to the brand’s account (@elfyeah), and you’ll find several videos from content creators raving about the product, particularly its coverage and natural finish. After scrolling through the feed, I had to find out if this $15 CC cream lived up to its viral hype.

The short answer is: Yes, it does.

When I first tried the CC cream, I was a bit skeptical of the rave reviews on TikTok. I’m a fan of another famous CC cream and wasn’t sure if there could be an equal. To hedge my bets, I decided to go with a light application first (a look more suited to a day spent solely on Zoom). The brand recommends one to two pumps for full coverage, so I opted for slightly less than a single pump. Using a flat top brush, I buffed the product onto my skin, and even the little I used went a long way. The CC cream covered my entire face, evening out the majority of my redness and leaving behind a dewy finish that held up for a full eight hours. I knew immediately that it would be a go-to on days I wanted a natural, light base.

But because I’d seen so many people rave about the coverage (and because e.l.f. claims it can be layered and built up), I wanted to test if the cream could reach full coverage status without making my face look cakey. Spoiler alert: It can.

The trick here is to apply in light layers. This time, in order to conceal my redness and acne scars, I used a beauty sponge to apply a full pump of the product. Once blended, I went in with another half pump, repeated my blending, and finished with a final half pump. All together, I used two full pumps for near opaque coverage, and I still managed to have a natural satin finish that didn’t look cakey.
