Mother-Daughter Duo Works Together and Swears Together
Janis and Carly Spindel are the mother-daughter duo who turned love into a full time gig. It was almost 30 years ago that New Yorker Janis turned her natural skill as a “people person” into a career in matchmaking. With 3,786 matches to date spanning Oklahoma to Europe, Janis has built an empire on helping singles meet, and now with her daughter Carly on board, matchmaking is a family affair. Together they match upscale male clients with women who are looking for commitment-oriented men.
At only 10 years old, Carly was learning the ropes from her mom, tagging along on interviews or manning check-in at mixers. Carly’s goal was to become an attorney, but she couldn’t ignore that her casual setups were resulting in success. She never thought she would be joining forces with Janis in the matchmaking realm, but she woke up one morning and thought, “I want to do this.” While stepping into mom’s already established business wasn’t easy, the transition to co-workers felt natural. “We compliment each other,” says Carly. “We bring different things to the table, which our clients appreciate.” Now, they combine Janis’ industry expertise and Carly’s millennial perspective in order to relate to all kinds of clients.
Janis’ dating advice for the single ladies out there? Be proactive and put yourself out there, because “you never know unless you try.” While Janis is a big believer in her bespoke matchmaking services, she also sees it as only “one of the avenues” to finding your new boo. Platforms like Bumble, she says, are great to “see who’s out there.”
Janis might have taught Carly all about making matches, but there are also things that mama has picked up from daughter. Ever since becoming a new mom, Carly has become a self-proclaimed “non-toxic freak.” Now, she’s turned Janis onto her clean lifestyle, and even stopped mom from reaching for a Stevia-filled drink during our interview. Just as their business model relies on learning from each other, Janis and Carly swap Swears IRL to find only the best products for Friday beauty night and weekday breakfast. Read on to discover this unstoppable duo’s organic and wellness inspired self-care picks.
