I recently marked the halfway point of my time in law school. And throughout the entire first half, I’ve pulled way more all nighters than I care to admit. Long nights poring over endless pages of rulings and dissents, bleary-eyed and weary— it’s not a pretty picture. While I would never recommend subjecting yourself to the tortures of sleepless study sessions, I do have products I swear by to help you power through and subsequently recover from an all-nighter.
BIALETTI Moka 6 Cup Express Espresso Maker
Student life and all-nighters go hand in hand. And there’s no better company than a fresh hot cup of coffee. Skip the frappe or the Nespresso sometime and try out the moka pot. It’s classic. It’s fun. And the way it percolates may be the only entertainment you have when you’re slugging through Property Law cases. Don’t be intimidated by the moka pot either. Think of it as something a bit in the in-between of a french presss and an espresso machine. I love my Bialetti and try to grind my beans fresh for the best, most soothing taste. And it’s just so satisfying to the senses to brew and pour from it. Looks great in the kitchen too, unlike those hulking pod machines.
Emergen-C Vitamin C Drink Mix - Super Orange - 10ct
Alright. This isn’t the most glamorous swear. But intense study sessions and all-nighters are stressful and the last thing you want is for them to take a toll on your health. Call it contradictory, call it overcompensation, being so health-conscious when sacrificing a night of sleep is one of the most unhealthy things you could possibly do. But #SometimesItJustBeLikeThat. And even if you’re not on the all-nighter struggle squad, Emergen-C is a great and convenient supplement to your health regiment. Just add water 😉
Blackwing 602 Pencils (12 pack) - Blackwing602.com
They call the Blackwing the Lambo of pencils. And honestly, I’m inclined to agree. I mostly write in cursive and with a Blackwing, pencil to paper contact flows smoothly, beautifully, and in a way that almost seems to fuel the drive to keep writing. Call me a bit odd, but something about such a quality pencil boosts my morale a bit when I’m annotating the umpteenth page of my textbook. And for all you penmanship proponents out there, your journals and planners will thank you.
JBL Clip 2 | Waterproof Ultra-portable Bluetooth Speaker
No matter what music you like to study to (I personally prefer the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack alternating with Led Zeppelin), this portable little bluetooth speaker packs a powerful sound and fairly durable battery life. It’s waterproof too! You know, in case you need to listen to recorded lectures in the shower the morning before an exam.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
I don’t know about you but my skin doesn’t do so well under S T R E S S. And what should you do to recover from a stressful time to literally save your skin? Repeat after me: Apply First Aid… Beauty. There’s a reason the Ultra Repair Cream’s garnered so many fans and glowing reviews. It really is “intense hydration.” I use it right after toning (or occasionally essence) for even better absorption and it leaves my skin so nourished and soft. It’s a pretty no-nonsense and effective moisturizer that I love for both daytime and as an overnight moisturizer.
Batiste Hint of Color - Divine Dark Dry Shampoo - 6.73 fl oz
Post all-nighter, my eyes are baggy and bloodshot. I look like a tired mess. But my hair doesn’t have to be! I love Batiste in Divine Dark for my dark locks as it’s free from white-ish residue and smells lovely. It absorbs oil and helps keep my hair bouncy and fresh. Application is really simple of course, just spray, zhuzh up your hair to better distribute the product and provide volume, and you’re all set! Talk about coming in clutch for a hairy situation (sorry, I’ll show myself out).
