My Brilliant Friend | The Neapolitan Novels

Book one in the New York Times bestselling Neapolitan quartet about two friends growing up in post-war Italy is a rich, intense, and generous-hearted family epic by Italy’s most beloved and acclaimed writer, Elena Ferrante, “one of the great novelists of our time.” (Roxana Robinson, The New York Times)

This is the first book in a series called the Neapolitan Novels. I raced through all of them. It’s translated from Italian, but the writing is incredible. Poignant and very personal, the series gives insight into female relationships over a lifetime.

This book feels like a big warm hug. It's so wonderfully realized and the friendship is so real and relatable in the way these girls both love and battle each other. A great friendship is explored with a background of post-war violence and poverty. It's so, so good.

All four books are brilliantly written. The story is so well composed, that you float from book to book seamlessly, and get so caught up in the story of friendship between these two girls.
