Ohm Your Way to Awesomeness: Yoga for Bad People’s Heather Lilleston on Travel Swears

Girls just wanna have fun—even yoga teachers. Our favorite yogi, Heather Lilleston, launched her company, Yoga for Bad People, in 2012 to make yoga more inclusive and accessible to people who felt intimidated by the strict “rules” surrounding most practices. She makes yoga fun and lively (even for us f*ck ups) on retreats that she hosts around the world in exotic locations like Portugal and Tanzania. The yin and yang that Heather captured in her brand name is the same vibe that we love about Heather herself. She’s balanced but wildly fun, spiritual but direct, honest but with a sly twinkle in her eye. Oh, and she also looks like a real-life Skipper doll. It’s impossible to hate on her, though, because her company is called Yoga for Bad People, and she just gets it. With retreats all over the world, Heather is a serious traveler who logged more than 60 flights last year. She’s very picky about what she swears by and what goes in her carry-on, so we asked her to share her must-have Swears that she won’t travel without.

1. Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar

“Apple cider vinegar is truly an amazing thing. It’s great for re-balancing your pH levels, especially after traveling. I’ll just swig it in the morning, and at night I pour some in the bath and soak as a detox for the skin.”

2. Spirituelle Lava Rock Potpourri

“I went to a dinner party at a friend’s and I couldn’t get get over how amazing her house smelled. I just became obsessed. Now I have these scented lava rocks everywhere in my home. They last so long, and the smell isn’t overwhelming; it’s just right. I love to give them as gifts everywhere I go.”

3. Chlorella Tablets

“I travel a ton which is bad for your health for so many reasons. I take Chlorella green algae powder with me and mix it into drinks every day to help detoxify. It tastes pretty good!”

4. Vans Checkerboard Slip-On

“These are so classic. They are understated, comfortable, and go with everything. And they’re inexpensive! I’ve been wearing them my whole life.”

5. Fendi Sunglasses

“They are unique and different. I’ve had them forever and they just work. I’m not sure if they’re available anymore, but I think, overall, a fun but chic pair of sunglasses can make an outfit. Especially when your work has you in yoga pants all day!”

6. Moroccan Oil Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner

“I don’t do a lot with my hair. I need something simple, and this is what works best for me. I refuse to use anything else. Refuse! I love it. Obsessed. Super Swear.”
[Editor’s note: We asked Heather her ¬†bucket list location for a Yoga retreat. Her answer: Antarctica. And then we asked her which of her Swears she would be bring with her. She said, “Without a doubt, Moroccan Oil Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner!” So she was serious when she said “Super Swear,” even to Antarctica!]
