Luxurious (But Affordable!) Swears from the Women of Laguna Beach

What do the women of Laguna Beach swear by? This beachy, Southern California enclave was made famous by the frothy antics of teen reality TV, but we know it as the place where the cool and discerning women hang out. Our friend and hostess with the mostest, Lauren Manthripragada, gathered a stellar group of women at her gorgeous home (overlooking the Pacific, obv!) for a SwearBy Swap. Each woman was asked to bring an affordable little luxury that she swears by. We sipped wine, made new friends, snacked on an incredible spread from TABLO, and then traded Swears. We learned that this group loves good coffee from the best cafe in town, Zinc, and clean beauty from Laguna’s cult-favorite natural products shop ROOTS. We loved getting to know this chic group of designers, moms, CEOs, illustrators, yoga teachers, and designers; we were so impressed by their finds that we compiled a list of Swears (most are under $50!) just for you, courtesy of the women of Laguna Beach.

1. Senna Cosmetics Light Tricks Highlight Duo

“This eye pencil is two-sided; one side is a highlighter, and the other is more matte. In the daytime, I put a little bit under my eyebrows or the inner corners. At nighttime, it gives a little glimmer. Honestly, I don’t really wear a lot of makeup, but this just gives that sort of glow around the eyes. It’s easy, cheap, and it’s something I always have in my purse—even if I have no other makeup on.” –Lauren

2. MBeze Natural Deodorant

“I’m a yoga teacher and I sweat so much throughout the day. I hadn’t worn deodorant since I was 16, because it was all toxic, and I’m such a freak about ingredients. Then I found this deodorant at the store ROOTS, here in Laguna Beach. The brand is called MBeze and they have different scents, but the Koko Haze is my favorite. I even made my husband try it, and it worked on him too! You only need a tiny bit, even if you’re working out all day. It doesn’t have a super perfume-y smell, so it’s very natural.” –Sarah

Deodorize, naturally

3. Sara Happ Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

“The founder of this company began this project in her kitchen. She wanted something that didn’t kiss off, something that was natural, so she whipped up this concoction. All of a sudden Reese Witherspoon was buying it, and now it’s in Nordstrom and all these different places. I love it.” –Sofia

Soft lips, right this way

4. Lush Body Lotion

“I love Lush, and their body lotion is my favorite. I love the texture, and the simple but sweet smell.” –Rebecca

Treat your body to a little TLC

5. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen

“This sunscreen is amazing! It’s almost like an oil that you put on, but it’s very, very thin and does not feel like a sunscreen at all. It has SPF 40. I actually got it in a gift bag at a conference that I went to, and I usually throw away everything in those things, but this is the one product I went out and purchased after. Sunscreen that won't clog your pores

6. Buxom Full-On Lip Polish

“This is what I carry everywhere in my bag. It’s an easy go-to; I have the shade Kristen on hand, which is a nice pink color, but I’m currently wearing Natalie, which is more red.” –Kristin

7. Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

“I discovered this while I was living in London, and I’ve been using it ever since, for the better part of a decade. It’s quite natural, and it has a slight eucalyptus scent and a nice creamy texture. I apply it all over my face, then I use a muslin cloth with hot water to wash it off. It just feels amazing, and people are always asking me what I use on my face—this is it! –Amy

You've never seen a cleanser like this

8. ILIA Pure Mascara

“I use this all the time. It’s the most clean, natural mascara I’ve found, and I’m obsessed. I have straight eyelashes, but it holds a curl and doesn’t smear. Usually, everything smears on me!” –Jo

For healthy, organic lashes

9. Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator

“It’s a mixture of hydration and aromatherapy, and you just spritz it all over your face. It smells really good. You can even get a mini size, to keep right in your purse.” –Katie

The multitasker of skincare

10. Eye Masks and Ear Plugs

“These are for snoring husbands, crying children, and whatever else is going on in the middle of the night. I have a variety of these eye masks, like one that has a pair of eyelashes on them and one [with expletives], depending on what mood you’re in.” –Andrea

11. RMS Beauty "Un" Cover-Up

“I like to apply this around my lips. We all know lipstick can bleed, but putting this around the mouth here and there really helps. I also have fine lines in that area, but I [recently discovered] that if you dab a bit of illuminator around your lips, it makes them pop! So this my SwearBy.” –Kristine

This concealer does it all

12. La Roche-Posay Facial Sunscreen

“I discovered this luxury beauty brand while living in France. They have the most amazing facial sunscreen, and now that I’m stateside, I was so excited to find it at CVS!”–Elizabeth

No such thing as too much SPF

13. Moroccanoil Treatment

“They have this in Hong Kong, [where I just flew in from], and it doesn’t leave my hair looking like a greasy mess, even when I’m sweating bullets in the summer heat and humidity.” –Andrea

A tried-and-true hair favorite

14. TABLO Leather Wine Carrier

“It’s the perfect hostess gift for a holiday party. You can also bring your wine to any restaurant you’re going to. The leather is so beautiful, and it’s so easy to use. You slide the wine bottle in, wrap it around, pull the ring down, and you’re good to go!” –Krista

Wine on the go

15. Amore Pacific Color Control Cushion Compact with SPF 50

“I’m not a product junkie, but I’m always looking for a good sunscreen. This concealing compact doesn’t make me look like I have makeup on, and the SPF is substantial, but doesn’t look like the white, chalky sunscreen I put on my kids. I love the texture and the dewy finish.” –Colleen

Amazing Coverage, Right Here

16. Rodan + Fields Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex

“This eye cream decreases puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. I SwearBy it because I have dark, puffy eyes, and this one is designed specifically for the eye area. Not to mention this bottle has lasted me 5 months!” –Paige

Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed

17. Farmhouse Pottery Pitcher

“I love the ritual of coffee or tea when I wake up in the morning. There are all these artisan potters out there, and I love Farmhouse Pottery. I found this awesome pitcher online, and you can use each one to hold something different. I SwearBy having a pre-made pitcher of cocktails (or mocktails, if you don’t drink) whenever you’re having people over.” –Erin

Pitchers don't do it justice

18. Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum

“I discovered this from my friend Kim, who swears by it as her secret for glowing skin. I had to try it based on her recommendation, and now I’m totally hooked! I wasn’t using a serum at the time, but this product brightens and makes my skin feel nourished. It makes me feel like I’m doing something good for my skin.” –Kate

Your daily dose of Vitamin C
